DBCO Retro Viral Screening

Collaborative Screening for a Healthier Community

DBCO understands that tackling complex health issues requires partnership. Working in collaboration with dedicated international partners (IPs) such as Fhi 360, local health facilities, and the Rivers State Ministry of Health, we integrate retroviral screening into our free medical programs held within communities.

Nigeria has made significant strides in the fight against HIV, yet challenges remain. The national HIV prevalence rate is 1.4% among adults aged 15-49 years, according to the 2018 Nigeria HIV/AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS). While specific recent data for Port Harcourt or Rivers State might vary, focused efforts are still vital to reach key populations and ensure everyone knows their status.

By bringing screening directly to communities through our medical outreach, DBCO helps to overcome barriers such as cost, distance, and stigma that might prevent vulnerable individuals from accessing testing services.

Linking Screening to Care

Knowing one’s status is the critical first step. For individuals who receive a positive result during our screening, DBCO ensures a vital linkage to care. Referrals are promptly made to designated government and partner health facilities that specialize in comprehensive HIV treatment and care.

This ensures that those who test positive can access the necessary medical support, antiretroviral therapy (ART), and counseling to manage their health effectively and live full, productive lives.

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” – Benjamin Franklin

Through these collaborative screening efforts and the critical referral system, DBCO is not just conducting tests; we are building pathways to prevention, treatment, and hope, contributing to a healthier and more resilient community in Port Harcourt and beyond.
