"The greatest wealth is health." - Virgil
Our strength lies in collaboration. DBCO mobilizes a dedicated team of volunteer medical personnel – including experienced doctors, laboratory scientists, pharmacists, nurses, counselors, and general health workers – drawn from various government and private health facilities. These compassionate professionals join hands with DBCO to deliver care during our outreach programs.
We believe in holistic healthcare. Our medical programs go beyond basic consultations to offer a wide range of crucial services, completely free of charge:
Diagnostic Testing: Genotype, Blood Group, Retroviral Screening (RVS for HIV), Malaria Parasite testing, Urinalysis, Random Blood Sugar (RBS), Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS), Packed Cell Volume (PCV).
Eye Care: Vision tests and provision of free eyeglasses.
Pharmaceutical Support: Free administration and distribution of necessary medications.
Maternal Health: Antenatal services for pregnant mothers.
Referral System: For positive retroviral screenings or other sensitive diagnoses requiring specialized care, we ensure patients are referred appropriately.
DBCO’s commitment is evident in the numerous large-scale medical outreaches we’ve successfully executed:
Yibama (Oruma), Bayelsa State (Dec 2012): Provided critical post-flood medical aid.
Rumuodomaya, Port Harcourt (Apr 2014): Served our host community as part of our corporate social responsibility.
Omueke, Isiokpo, Rivers State (Jul 2015): Mobilized over 10 communities for one of our largest medical programs.
Gokana LGA, Rivers State (Jun 2017): Administered Vitamin A and Albendazole to over 5,000 children under five across 17 communities in a 6-day program.
Other Communities Served: Including Bodo-City (Dec 2011), Diobu, Port Harcourt (Dec 2012), and Eeken Town, Khana LGA (Dec 2016).
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” – Helen Keller
While our impact is significant, the need remains vast. Free medical programs are resource-intensive. We continuously seek collaboration with stakeholders, government bodies (state and federal), corporate organizations, religious groups, and crucially, local and international donors to sustain and expand these vital services. Fund-raising activities are also organized to bridge financial gaps.
Looking ahead, DBCO envisions establishing a dedicated DBCO Health Centre. This facility would provide consistent, accessible, and free medical services to our target populations, significantly mitigating their health challenges. We are actively seeking partners to help fund the building and establishment of this vital health facility. We also aim to conduct longer, 1-2 week residential medical service programs in partnership with larger health facilities, tackling a wider range of health issues, once adequate funding is secured.
